QUICK FACTS ABOUT SURF n’ INK

The inaugural SURF n’ ink held from January 15-17 2010 was a resounding success. The pre-opening lineup extended almost the entire length of the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre and crowds continued to flood through the doors across the three days of the event. Over 10,000 people attended.

SURF n’ ink was the first truly International Tattoo Festival on Australian soil.

SURF n’ ink is the brainchild of Custom Tattooz Magazine editor, Marco Ventura. The organisation and logistics of the event are managed by the dynamic duo of Marco and his partner, Lindsay Hall.

The goal of SURF n’ ink organisers Marco and Lindsay is to advance the tattooing industry by:
  •      - Showcasing to the Gold Coast and Australian public the highest calibre of tattoo artists in the world;
  •       - Educating the public about the tattoo industry;
  •       - Providing a platform for artists to exchange information and techniques;
  •       - Providing educational seminars for industry professionals.

The growth of SURF n’ ink was inevitable as the size of the event doubled from the first year to the second to cater to demand. SURF n’ ink 2012 will be even bigger with an extra 1745m2 of space, making the 2012 event 4795m2 total.

Promoters, Custom Tattooz Magazine, are totally focused on SURF n’ ink as it is currently the only event organised by the company. Because of this, they are constantly looking for ways to improve and foster the growth of the event.

SURF n’ ink attendees are all ages, from all walks of life, and from all over Australia. Artists also travel from all around the world to the Gold Coast for the event. Because of this, Gold Coast tourism receives a huge boost from the influx of both tourists and international artists.

SURF n’ Ink 2011 was filmed for a documentary based on the Gold Coast being Australia's premier tattooing hub.

SURF n’ ink is the only Australian Tattoo Convention that has a strong commitment to artist satisfaction. Since organiser, Marco Ventura, is an artist himself, who spends around six months every year travelling the world attending tattoo conventions, he is certainly centred on ensuring his guests are content.

Big name artists that previously attended SURF n' ink include Bob Tyrrell, Nikko Hurtado, Nick Baxter and Mike Devries.

Artists have visited the Gold Coast for SURF n’ ink from over 20 different countries including Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Russia, Samoa, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, UK, and USA.

Over 15 different acts and attractions will be at SURF n’ ink 2012.

All ages welcome.
